State Government holds II Bahia-China Forum

To mark the celebrations of 50 years of the Brazil-China relationship in Bahia, the State Government, through the Superintendency of Economic and Social Studies of Bahia (SEI), is holding the II Bahia-China Forum. The event will take place on May 21, 2024, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, at the Hotel Deville, in Salvador and will begin discussions on the topics included in the technical-scientific exchange between SEI and the Shandong Macroeconomic Research Academy, in China, on the topics of Transport Logistics, Low Carbon Economy, Energy Transition and Smart Cities.

The objective of the forum is to foster scientific, cultural, institutional and commercial relations between China and Bahia, as happened in the first edition, held in May 2023. On this occasion, there will be the launch of the book “China Brazil, 50 Years of Diplomacy – New routes for a new time”, with the presence of the director of the Brazilian Press, Communication and Events Agency – AbraPress, Eduardo Teixeira.

Also participating will be the consul general of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Rio de Janeiro, Ms. Tian Min, and six representatives from the Shandong Academy, who will be in Bahia to carry out technical visits to begin studies in partnership with SEI.

The event will promote four panels, starting with the presentation of the SEI-Shandong technical-scientific exchange, with the presence of the Chinese university delegation: Ms. Zhang Zhongying (rector), Mr. Liu Wentao (department director), Mr. Ren Dong (director), Mr. Wang An (director), Mr. Liu Dejun (director) and Ms. Qi Zhen (research associate).

The second panel will address the milestone of 50 years of the Brazil-China relationship and perspectives for the energy transition, low-carbon economy and construction of smart cities, with Cláudia Trevisan, executive director of the Brazil-China Business Council, Celso de Arruda França, Diplomat Advisor to Itamaraty, Mr. Ma Xuefeng, CEO of CITIC Construção Brasil, in addition to the journalist from People’s Daily China, correspondent for Latin America, Mr. Yiming Chen.

In the afternoon, there will be a panel on Lessons from China for sustainable development, with specialist consultant Jaime Gama, from the company Gartner, who will talk about the digital future; researcher Maurício Lima Barreto, from the Center for Data and Knowledge Integration for Health (CIDACS-FIOCRUZ), who will address the impacts of climate change on public health; Mr. Zhang Kun, Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at UFBA; and the Human Development coordinator at UNDP Brazil, Betina Barbosa, will explain sustainable development.

In the last panel, the focus will be Logistics as a factor in regional development, with Carlos Henrique Passos, president of the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia (FIEB), and Mr. Chen Zongxu, CEO of CREC 10 China Railway, among other guests present to confirm.

The event is in partnership with the Secretariat of Tourism (Setur), the China Brazil Bussines Center and the Brazilian Press, Communication and Events Agency – AbraPress, in addition to the support of various bodies and secretariats of the Government of Bahia.
