To strengthen the promotion of equality in the state, the Ministry of Racial Equality (MIR) delivered, this Tuesday (7) in Salvador, kits with a vehicle, television, drinking fountain and refrigerator, which will be distributed in eight municipalities in Bahia. The ceremony took place at Terreiro de Jesus, in Pelourinho.

The kits will be delivered to the cities of Iraquara, Seabra, Salvador, Jequié, Dias d’Ávila, Santa Bárbara, São Gabriel and Riacho de Santana. The fight for the recognition and defense of the population’s rights has undergone improvements, as pointed out by MIR’s executive secretary, Roberta Eugênio. “When the Federal Government comes here, through the Ministry of Racial Equality, to arrive and announce the equipment kits to strengthen bodies that promote racial equality in eight municipalities in the State, we know that the policies will go further, They will arrive with their employees, with the best equipment and we will be able to carry out actions to combat racism and develop the population’s economic policy”.

On that occasion, the Public Call Notice was signed, with the purpose of selecting civil society organizations interested in signing a development agreement, whose purpose is the execution of projects for the socio-productive inclusion of traditional peoples and communities, aiming to generate income; the amendment of Decree No. 11,850, which establishes the State Policy for Remaining Quilombo Communities and provides for the identification, delimitation and titling of vacant lands in the State of Bahia; and adherence to the National Quilombola Territorial and Environmental Management Policy (PNGTAQ).

According to the Secretary for the Promotion of Racial Equality of Bahia, Ângela Guimarães, the partnership between the state and federal governments is fundamental for the development and advancement of racial equality policies in Brazil. “For us, it is a great happiness to work in this collaboration, which celebrates the strengthening of the policy to promote racial equality in the State and in Brazil”. For the secretary, in addition to structuring, it is necessary to listen to demands to advance the commitment to equality. “This is also a time to listen to what kind of actions they suggest that the Ministry develop in order to strengthen the racial equality policy in the municipalities,” she said.

The Public Defender’s Office, through the Racial Equity Center, will also have its activities reinforced, as explained by the general public defender, Firmiane Venâncio. “This kit will enable the internalization of our actions, to enable the Public Defender’s Office to be closer to traditional communities, quilombolas, and to be able, like other institutions, to join forces so that we can combat racism, so that we can promote increasingly racial equity”, highlighted the public defender.
