The Public Ministry of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul (MPMS) filed Public Civil Actions requesting urgent measures to address the long waiting lines for first consultations and procedures in various medical specialties in Campo Grande.

The legal actions, which include requests for urgent provisional protection, are against the State of Mato Grosso do Sul and the municipality of Campo Grande, demanding quick and effective solutions to the problem that has been ongoing since 2017.

In the area of orthopedics, the MPMS highlighted the urgent need for a concrete action plan to reduce waiting times for consultations and surgeries, with maximum deadlines of 100 days for consultations and 180 days for surgical procedures. Currently, data from the Regulation System (SISREG) from April 2024 shows that 7,754 patients are waiting for these orthopedic services, with specific demands in the areas of the spine, shoulders, hips and hands.

In addition to orthopedics, prosecutor Daniela Cristina Guiotti also presented actions for other critical areas, including general plastic surgery, ophthalmology and imaging tests such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. In these actions, the MPMS also requires public managers to present detailed plans with timelines for reducing queues within a period of 180 days.
