Procon-MG, a body of the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais, held on May 2nd and 3rd, the first meeting of 2024 of the Regional Consumer Protection Coordinations. The network is made up of Consumer Protection Justice prosecutors in the capital, prosecutors who work in the Regional Consumer Protection Coordination Offices and the coordinator of Procon-MG, prosecutor Glauber Tatagiba.
The meeting began with the presentation of ProconData, an intelligent search system that integrates consumer information from the Procon-MG, Sindec and Consumidor.gov systems. ProconData is the result of a partnership between the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), the Security and Intelligence Office (GSI/MPMG) and Procon-MG. The system began to be built 3 years ago and is in the final testing phase.
Also on the first day of the meeting, the legal opinion on abusive clauses in health plans, the new SAC inspection form and strategies for expanding the projects “60+: Revealing Rights, Disarming Scams” and “Dia de Pensar”, developed by the Consumer Education Division.
Second day
The second day of the meeting began with the presentation of a proposal for an inspection roadmap for pet stores. The coordinator of Procon-MG, Glauber Tatagiba, emphasized the importance of the topic by remembering that Minas Gerais has the third largest pet market in the country. According to the Minas Gerais Association of Pet Shops (Amipet), there are around 4,698 establishments in the state. The prosecutors also analyzed the study prepared by Procon State’s legal advisors on the forms of inspection of pet shops, including the execution of a technical cooperation agreement with the Regional Council of Veterinary Medicine (CRMV).
Then, the Consumer Protection Prosecutor of Divinópolis, Sérgio Gildin, shared the results of the operation carried out to inspect 50 gyms in the city, located in the Central-West region of Minas. Gyms that showed some type of irregularity were notified, with the lack of professionals trained in Physical Education being one of the main problems found.
Finally, the prosecutors discussed issues related to Intercity Transport and compliance with half-price legislation.
