The Chilean Arauco will receive the installation license on Friday to be able to begin work on the cellulose factory to be built in Inocência, on the banks of the Sucuriú River, which will give its name to the business venture estimated at R$ 15 billion for a first industrial plant . The information was passed on this morning by governor Eduardo Riedel (PSDB). The giant already maintains forests in the State and with the license it will begin actions to implement the project, which already had a prior license from Imasul (Environmental Institute of Mato Grosso do Sul).

The cellulose factory is expected to come into operation in 2028 with a first production line and a second for 2032. Each will have the capacity to produce 2.5 million tons of cellulose per year, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Chilean company chose to operate in the State due to its strategic location and production in the country is an alternative for obtaining raw materials faster, with eucalyptus forests, which produce faster than pine, used in that country.

In the first phase, it will have the same investment that another giant, Suzano, planned for the unit it will operate in the second half of the year in Ribas do Rio Pardo. The government made logistics investments in the region, with works to deliver a taxiway, apron and operational fence, worth R$15.4 million.

The previous license granted to the company by Imasul represented a certificate of the project’s environmental viability.

Cellulose products represented the largest share of the State’s exports. Forestry production has become a major focus in the industrial sector, with the State having the second largest area of cultivated eucalyptus, with 1.2 million hectares.
