After the calamity situation reached the Metropolitan region, Lagoa dos Patos now shows a rise in levels with the flow of the Guaíba. Coastal areas in the south of the state are on alert following a Civil Defense notice released at the weekend. Families have already been removed from their homes in high-risk areas of cities such as Pelotas, Rio Grande and São Lourenço, which see water advancing through the streets.

On the afternoon of this Monday (6), the level of Lagoa dos Patos in Pelotas already exceeded the flood level and reached the mark of 2 meters in the Trapiche ruler and 2.2 meters in the São Gonçalo Channel. The information comes from the city hall, based on official data from Civil Defense and other bodies that make up the operations and support network.

The city hall informs that the entire Z3 Fishermen’s Colony is on alert and families have already been removed. Other locations in Pelotas remain at risk of flooding, such as Doquinhas, Pontal da Barra and homes close to the bridge over the São Gonçalo Canal. More than 100 families have already left their homes and several roads blocked by flooding.

In São Lourenço do Sul, the level of Lagoa dos Patos reached 2.3 meters, according to measurements from the Largo Laura Abreu ruler on Monday afternoon. The information comes from the city hall, which also announced that 13 people were removed from their homes. There are roads blocked due to overflow.

In Rio Grande, the city hall reports that the level of Lagoa dos Patos is already 90cm above normal. There are blocked streets with flooding points. 89 people from the island region of the city were displaced from their homes. The data is from the most recent bulletin, this Monday morning.

As MetSul Metereologia explains, the North wind blows until Wednesday, worsening the situation throughout the week in the Lagoa dos Patos region and its surroundings, “where the enormous amount of water from Greater Porto Alegre goes. Coastal cities, such as Pelotas and Rio Grande, will experience severe flooding.”
