The Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger (MDS) is acting to assist Bolsa Família beneficiaries who were affected by the recent storms in Rio Grande do Sul. Anticipating and simplifying payments are important measures in this time of calamity.

The initiative aims to provide immediate support to affected families, allowing them to receive the benefit before the official calendar. Therefore, on May 17thinitial payment date, all beneficiaries will be able to withdraw their resourcesregardless of the end of the NIS, without the need for a card or documents, as long as they present a Special Payment Declaration issued by the city hall.

In addition to anticipation, the MDS also extended the deadline for registration updates, which is essential to ensure that all families can receive the benefit on a regular basis. This extension of the deadline aims to facilitate the process, allowing more families to have time to regularize their information.

Who can apply for Bolsa Família?

Registration is not direct, but done through the Single Registry.
Generally, it is preferable to be a person with over 16 years oldpreferably a woman, who informs the family group of the need for help.
Eligibility criteria include being registered in the Cadastro Único and having a family income of up to R$218 per person.

Step by step for registration

To receive Bolsa Família you must go through an interview at CRAS, where a Social Identification Number (NIS) will be generated for each family member. Generally speaking, these are the main steps you need to follow:

Search for the drive Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) nearest.
To present identification documents for all members family, in addition to proof of residence.
Reply to a socioeconomic questionnaire.
After completing the registration process, participation in Bolsa Família will be confirmedenabling access to the benefit.
