Record number: Tocantins jumps 13% in elective surgeries

-

The Government of Tocantins, in the last two years, has broken records in carrying out elective surgeries. In April 2024, another milestone was surpassed, with 1,448 procedures performed, 13% more than in the same period last year, when 1,274 were performed. The procedures take place in the hospital routine of units managed by the State Department of Health (SES-TO); through the Hospital Management Improvement Program (PAGH – Surgical), better known as Opera Tocantins; in agreements with municipalities and through contracted private hospitals.

All the people who benefited were waiting on the waiting list at the State Regulation Center (CER), like patient Taís Souza Freitas, who had tonsillectomy surgery at the Hospital Regional de Paraíso (HRP), and reported how the procedure went. “The feeling was one of relief, because I had been waiting for more than two years for surgery to remove my tonsils. It was a very anxious wait, constantly suffering from tonsil complications. But now I’m ready for a new life.”

In Guaraí, Dayane Costa de Sousa had surgery at the Regional Hospital (HRGUA). “I was positively surprised by the hospital’s service from Thursday until the last day I stayed there, which was Saturday, the 27th. Thank God, I had a very peaceful surgery. I was well looked after by all the nurses, and doctor Adriano treated me very well, I saw his care, he explained to me in detail what would be done in my surgery. I want to thank the hospital for taking such care of me, I have nothing to complain about, I just have to praise and thank you. They were nurses sent by God and the doctor was also sent by God,” she said.

For the Secretary of State for Health, Carlos Felinto, “the numbers have shown every month that the team from the State Secretariat for Health has been involved in the Government project which is the performance of elective surgeries. For this reason, we thank each and every server who heard Governor Wanderlei Barbosa’s call and has committed daily to ensuring that more lives are transformed through these procedures,” he stated.

Highlights

Among the hospital units managed by SES-TO, which stood out most in terms of growth in the number of electives, compared to the months of April 2023 and 2024 are: the Gurupi Regional Hospital with 354% (from 24 to 109); Miracema Regional Hospital with 217% (from 40 to 127); Dianópolis Regional Hospital with 119% (from 21 to 46) and Araguaína Regional Hospital with 82% (from 73 to 133).

According to the general director of HRG, Fernando Bezerra, “elective surgeries are important because they contribute to the quality of life of patients who are waiting, thus reducing illness related to the pathologies that cause surgical needs. Carrying out these surgeries brought benefits, as they significantly reduced the number of people waiting in line, bringing comfort and better health to these patients.”

Data

Since October 2021, the Government of Tocantins has removed almost 36 thousand people from the waiting list for elective surgeries. Of the total, 18,074 were in 2023 and 5,953 have already occurred this year.
