The latest update to the bulletin issued by the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul, released in the early afternoon of this Monday (6), points out that 364 municipalities were hit by heavy rains in the region, affecting 873,275 people. To date, 83 deaths have been confirmed and four more are under investigation, in addition to 291 people injured in the state.
The National Secretariat for Protection and Civil Defense has already recognized the state of public calamity in 336 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul. The ordinance with the list of cities was published this Sunday (5), in an extra edition of Official Diary of the Union. Shortly before, a first ordinance covering 265 municipalities was published, but was revised in a new edition.
Last Thursday (2), the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development had already recognized the situation throughout the state, following the state decree published the previous day.
Storms affect more than two thirds of municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul, and recognition of the calamity situation facilitates the transfer of resources for emergency and reconstruction actions. According to a note released by the delegation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who was in the state this Sunday, 14.5 thousand people were mobilized in the three government bodies for operations that rescued, until the beginning of this week, more than 25 thousand people .
Until this Tuesday (6), the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) maintains the red level alert for the region, indicating that intense rains will continue to hit the state, mainly in the southeast region.
