Gym teacher is shot during traffic fight and is hospitalized in serious condition | Pernambuco

A gym teacher was shot during a traffic fight in the Peixinhos neighborhood, in Olinda. According to relatives, Marlon de Melo de Freitas da Luz, 31, was returning from work on a motorcycle when he got into a fight with another motorcyclist, who shot him twice. The worker was admitted in serious condition to Hospital da Restauração, in Derby, central region of Recife.

According to relatives and friends, the person who shot was a criminal police officer, who even registered a police report after the incident. g1 tried to confirm the information with the Civil Police and the state government, who did not respond until the last update of this report.

The case happened on Saturday (4). Marlon Melo was hit in the chest and arm. The first shot pierced the victim’s lung and lodged in his spine.

He was taken to an Emergency Care Unit (UPA) and then transferred to Hospital da Restauração, where he underwent surgery and is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). According to the hospital, his condition is serious but stable.

The discussion took place on Avenida Antônio da Costa Azevedo. Marlon’s friend, personal trainer Rafael Maranhão said that the victim had just finished giving a group exercise class and was returning home. He lives in the Campo Grande neighborhood, in the North Zone of Recife.

“There was an argument. Marlon was on a motorcycle and the other boy was on another. They weren’t close, each was on his own motorcycle. At a certain point, the boy pulled out a gun and shot twice,” said Rafael.

At Hospital da Restauração, according to Rafael, Marlon underwent surgery at around 2pm on Saturday (4). The procedure ended around 5pm.

“He spent more than 24 hours in the recovery room, because there was no place in the ICU. We had to seek an injunction for him to be transferred to an ICU. We even learned that he went into cardiac arrest and only managed to be transferred on Sunday (5)”, he said.

Rafael also said that, on the day of the discussion, Marlon’s family gave a statement at the Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP), in Cordeiro, in the West Zone of Recife. There, relatives discovered that the attacker was a criminal police officer.

“When they made the report, the clerk found the story similar to one told a day earlier, of a man who went to the scene to file a police report saying that he acted in self-defense, after an attempted robbery. This man was released. He shot Marlon in the morning and only at night did he register the police report, because he must have been instructed to present that version to get away with what he did,” said Rafael.

According to Marlon’s acquaintances, the version that he tried to rob the criminal police officer is false.

“Marlon is a man of integrity, a family man, a hard worker. He has a daughter and a wife. He is a criminal police officer who knows the law and knows that he used disproportionate force, because Marlon posed no risk to him. And he simply left through the front door of the police station”, declared Maranhão.

In a note, the Civil Police simply said that “it is investigating the case” and that “more information will be passed on at an opportune moment, so as not to hinder the investigations.”
