CCBB RJ Reading Club debates Complete Stories by Lima Barreto

Unmissable class

He pointed out that the Reading Club will be “an unmissable class”. In addition, it will be an opportunity for the public to watch the satirical musical comedy The bruzundangastext by Lima Barreto, adapted by Renato Carrera, currently showing at Teatro 2 at CCBB RJ, from Thursday to Saturday, at 7pm, and on Sundays, at 6pm.

Lima Barreto, born on May 13, 1881 and died on November 1, 1922. A descendant of slaves, Barreto felt social exclusion firsthand, including in academic circles, due to his origin and color. In addition to alcoholism, he faced several health problems in his life and was admitted to a mental institution more than once.

Free event

The meeting about Lima Barreto’s work, with Lilia Schwarcz and Beatriz Resende, will begin at 5:30 pm, at the Banco do Brasil Library, 5th floor, CCBB RJ, with free entry. The CCBB 2024 Reading Club is sponsored by Banco do Brasil. Videos of the meetings are available, in full, on BB’s YouTube. The project runs until December 2024. The first two meetings this year had the participation of Viviane Mosé, Eliana Alves Cruz and Marilene Felinto, in March; and by Eliane Potiguara, Eliane Brum and Anapuaka Tupinambá, in April. Your videos are now available. In 2023, 1,243 people participated in person in the Club, which had thousands of accesses online.

Clarice Lispector

Suzana Vargas said that the fourth meeting will take place on June 5th and will be about Clarice Lispector’s book The Passion According to GH, addressing the author’s presence in cinema. The guests are filmmaker Luiz Fernando Carvalho, director of the film about the book that is debuting in cinemas, actress Maria Fernanda Cândido, who will read excerpts from the book, as well as Nádia Battela Gotib, the author’s first biographer, and with a special participation by Melina Dalboni, who was the film’s screenwriter.

July schedule

In July, the CCBB RJ Reading Club will have the theme The seven colors of the word and literature in diversity. The guests will be drag queen Rita Von Hunty and trans poet Tom Grito.
