After the historic storms that hit Rio Grande do Sul last week, Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology) predicts intense rains for other regions of the country. States in the North region are under a “potential danger” alert for the next 10 days.

“Intense rains with potential danger”. Inmet announced this Sunday (5) that the states of Amapá, Amazonas, Pará and Roraima could receive intense rain, with a warning of “potential danger” over the next 10 days. This type of meteorological warning is the first on the Inmet scale. The others are “danger” and “great danger”.

Accumulations greater than 70 millimeters of rain are expected in much of the North region between May 7th and 15th, according to Inmet.

For the next two days, the forecast is for lots of clouds and rain at any time in the north of Amazonas, the entire state of Roraima, Amapá and the north of Pará, according to Climatempo. “They will be temporary. The volume of rain is quite high and gusts of wind exceeding 70km/h are expected,” said a recent statement from the portal.

In Acre, northern Rondônia and the interior of Pará, between Monday (6) and Tuesday (7) there will also be rain showers, but only at the end of the day and in a more isolated manner, “with moderate to strong intensity” , according to Climatempo.

In the Northeast, Inmet predicts rain showers that could exceed 60 millimeters in the north of the states of Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará and the eastern part of the region. For Bahia, an accumulation of rain is expected with “potential risk” only on the coast. In other northeastern areas, lower rainfall accumulations are expected.

Rains in RS

Storms are also forecast for Rio Grande do Sul and part of Santa Catarina until the second week of May. “The forecast is for rain showers that could exceed 80 millimeters in the north of Rio Grande do Sul and south of Santa Catarina. In the rest of the South region, smaller accumulations are expected”, according to Inmet.

The Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul confirmed 78 deaths in the state in recent days due to the rains. At least 105 people were still missing as of early Sunday evening (5).

Heat and warning of ‘great danger’

In the Central-West and Southeast regions, Inmet expects dry and hot weather for the next few days, with a warning of heat waves with ‘great danger’ in the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Holy Spirit.

All capitals in these regions are forecast to have a maximum temperature above 30°C over the next week, according to Climatempo.
