1) self-sufficiency – support teams should not require local management to provide support for food and accommodation. Remember, everything is saturated!

2) specialization – teams should not expend efforts to save or train volunteers. Everyone who works must be prepared for risky and hostile environments.

3) service according to demand – sending help must be strictly linked to needs.

“Structuring humanitarian logistics is as complex as carrying out rescues. Every effort to organize what is not necessary requires time and resources and in a critical environment these quantities (time and resources) are very important”, says the secretary.

Since last Friday, the 3rd, the Civil Defense of Santa Catarina has been carrying out this guidance work with countless citizens of Santa Catarina, who are mobilized to help families suffering from the tragedy.

Among the actions that the State Civil Defense intermediated was the union of aviator friends, businessmen and entrepreneurs from Porto Belo, Santa Catarina Coast. In a little less than 48 hours, they sent 30 aircraft, including helicopters and planes, to Rio Grande do Sul (photo) with around 20 tons of food, medicine and supplies. Around 100 people participated in the actions.

For assistance through Civil Defense to occur, the interested citizen must have guaranteed donations and transportation. Contact is made with the Humanitarian Assistance manager of the Secretariat of Protection and Civil Defense of Santa Catarina, Major Ireno, by phone (48) 99174-9145, service will be provided according to demand.
