I am admitted to Hospital Santa Júlia in Manaus (center). Erysipelas is still not expected to be discharged. A hug to everyone. Jair Bolsonaro. May 5th, 4:30 pm. Message published by the former president on social media

Bolsonaro arrived in the Amazonian capital on Friday (3). He disembarked in discomfort and was treated the following day. The erysipelas condition is the same bacterial infection that struck him in November 2022, after the defeat in the presidential elections.

Upon leaving the hospital on Saturday (4), Bolsonaro spoke briefly to journalists. “A case of erysipelas appeared. I didn’t sleep all last night. My wife and the doctors didn’t want me to come, but I had an appointment here (in Manaus). I’m a bit tough when it comes to falling. So I came and was treated well by the doctors,” she said at the time.

After being released, the former president still participated in the event. Bolsonaro attended the closing of a PL Mulher meeting, headed by former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro.

It is not the first time that the former president has faced an episode of skin infection. In November 2022, Bolsonaro canceled schedules due to the same problem. At the time, the then vice-president, Hamilton Mourão, said that the illness prevented the then-president from wearing pants.

As it is a bacterial infection, erysipelas is treated with antibiotics. Depending on the severity of the condition, signs of improvement begin to appear within 48 hours of starting the medication.
