Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, president of the Federal Supreme Court, determined, this Saturday (4/5), the suspension of procedural deadlines for all actions underway in the court involving Rio Grande do Sul and its municipalities, amid the storms and the floods that hit the state.

RS faces a state of public calamity due to storms and floods in several cities

The measure is valid for the period between last Thursday (2/5) and next Friday (10/5). The suspension refers to actions coming from courts in Rio Grande do Sul or whose parties are represented only by lawyers registered with the OAB of that state.

The resolution signed by Barroso also provides that the rapporteurs of the processes can analyze other situations not covered by his measure, but “proven to be affected by the public calamity”.

The request to suspend the deadlines was made by the Federal Council of the OAB. The Government of RS declared a state of public calamity last Wednesday (1/5) due to intense rains that have been causing flooding in several municipalities. This Saturday, 57 deaths and 67 disappearances had already been confirmed. With information from the STF press office.
