A two-year-old baby was rescued by Brazilian Army soldiers through the roof of a house in Bom Retiro do Sul, in the Vale do Taquari region, this Friday (3). In addition to him, four other people who lived in the same house were removed from the scene in a helicopter and taken to a safe location.

The rescue was carried out by the second sergeant of the Brazilian Army, Andrwis Victor Nunes, and the images were recorded by the body camera of third sergeant Lucas Ferreira Leite. They are part of a group that left São Paulo to help with rescues in RS. Look above.

The images show that the soldier had to use a brick to open a hole in the roof and rescue the group. According to GZH, the rescue site was difficult to access and there were fears that the wind from the helicopter could knock the family down or blow away tiles.

Governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB) stated, on Thursday (2), that this is the “biggest climate disaster in the state”.

In Vale do Taquari, the region most affected during the September 2023 floods, the Taquari River exceeded 30 meters in height and reached the highest level in history. The river level reached 31.2 meters, higher than the flood recorded in September 2023, when it reached 29.5 meters, and the highest high recorded until then, which was 29.9 meters, in 1941.

In addition to the dead, there are 67 missing and 74 injured people. Civil Defense has 32,962 people away from home, with 8,296 people in shelters and 24,666 homeless, in the homes of family or friends. In total, 281 of the state’s 496 municipalities recorded some type of problem, affecting 377.5 thousand people.

On Friday (3), images made available by the Military Brigade of Rio Grande do Sul show the moment in which a team rescues a couple and a dog, also in Bom Retiro do Sul. At the time of the action, it is possible to see that the couple is on top of a car covered in tree branches that ended up getting stuck in the vehicle because of the storms in the state.

According to information from BM, the woman has difficulty moving around and was found with hypothermia.
