The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) published a warning of potential danger caused by intense rain in at least 32 cities on the coast of Rio Grande do Norte. The alert is valid from this Saturday morning (4) until 10 am this Sunday (5).
According to the institute, the forecast is that the North Coast region will be hit with rainfall ranging between 20 and 30 millimeters per hour, or up to 50 millimeters per day. Intense winds are also forecast, varying between 40 and 60 km per hour.
The intensity of the rain and winds causes, according to the agency, “low risk of electricity cuts”, in addition to falling tree branches, flooding and electrical discharges.
In case of gusts of wind, Inmet advises the population not to take shelter under trees, due to the risk of falling and electrical discharges. Other guidelines are: do not park vehicles near transmission towers and advertising signs and avoid using electronic devices plugged in.
The warning of potential danger, in yellow, is the first on Inmet’s meteorological warning scale, which goes up to red, in cases of great danger.
