MT invests R$1.6 billion to duplicate 174 km of BR-163

Government of Mato Grosso is investing more than R$ 1.6 billion to improve logistics and ensure greater traffic safety for the population, since it took over, a year ago, on May 4th, controlling interest in Nova Rota do Oeste, concessionaire of BR-163 in the State.

“This is a historic date for Mato Grosso. We created an unprecedented and innovative solution in Brazil to solve one of our biggest problems in the State. The highway is federal, but we, the people of Mato Grosso, feel the impacts. The lack of duplication in BR-163 caused not only economic but also social losses. With the new investments, we will improve logistics and prevent more deaths from happening”, highlights governor Mauro Mendes.

In this first year of the concession, the Government delivered, in March this year, the first 15 kilometers of the highway duplication work between Posto Gil, in Diamantino, and Nova Mutum. The total investment is R$618 million for the duplication of 86 kilometers. Upon delivery, in March this year, the Government also launched the duplication of another 88 kilometers of highway between Nova Mutum and Lucas do Rio Verde. For this second project, the investment forecast is in the order of R$670 million.

The Government also restored the pavement of five sections: on Rodovia dos Imigrantes (BR-070), in the section under the Nova Rota do Oeste concession, in Cuiabá; from Cuiabá to Rosário Oeste (BR-364); and from Nova Mutum to Sinop (BR-163), totaling an investment of more than R$202 million.

Last year, the renovation of the bridge over the Red River (BR-364), the second pedestrian walkway in Rondonópolis (BR-364), the implementation of three SAU user service bases in Juscimeira, Jaciara and Santo Antônio were also carried out. de Leverger (BR-364), as well as the recovery of the pavement of the section of BR-364 that was under the responsibility of DNIT, from Rondonópolis to Cuiabá.

The CEO of Nova Rota do Oeste, Luciano Uchôa, notes that the exchange of share control, combined with the Conduct Adjustment Term (TAC) signed between the Concessionaire and the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), were the path to unblock the works on the highway, which had been halted since 2016.

Uchôa recalls that the Government committed to resolving the financial issues of the former concessionaire and meeting the new deadlines for works that had not been carried out. ANTT, in turn, built the regulatory path for the Mato Grosso solution to be applied and took it for approval by the Federal Audit Court (TCU).

“We worked hard to make the idea work, and we knew it was a very difficult path. With the courage of the State Government, which took on a problem that was not its own, and ANTT, which went beyond the obvious to serve users, we managed getting there. It was an alignment of the stars, with the right people at the right times”, he says.

The TAC signed with ANTT foresees, in total, the duplication of 336 kilometers of BR-163 and 34 kilometers of marginal road, in addition to the construction of seven walkways and viaducts, bridges, interchanges and U-turns. In total, the planned investment is R$7.8 billion. To meet the agreed deadline, the works were divided into seven packages.

Works in full swing

The first section of the duplication between Diamantino and Nova Mutum has two work fronts: one concentrated at km 522 of BR-163 towards Nova Mutum and the other at km 583 of the highway, in the opposite direction (Diamantino). In these segments, land clearing, vegetation suppression, earthmoving and drainage services are carried out, according to the needs of each stage. The deadline for completion is 24 months.

In the second package of works, which foresees the duplication between Nova Mutum and Lucas do Rio Verde, the teams work on clearing the land and removing vegetation from km 601 (in Nova Mutum), with progress towards Lucas do Rio Verde. In addition to this activity, the contracted consortium works on mobilizing labor and training the construction site. The duplication of this segment must be completed in 2 years, as stipulated in the contract.

Two projects are also in the contracting phase: one for the duplication of Rodovia dos Imigrantes (BR-070), in Cuiabá, with a planned duplication of 16 km, construction of a bridge and two viaducts; another for readjusting the Sinop urban crossing. This latest work involves the duplication of 26 km of runway, adjustment of parameters on 18 km and construction of six viaducts. The works are expected to begin in the second half of the year.

By the end of 2024, three other projects will be contracted to expand the capacity of BR-163 in the stretch from Lucas do Rio Verde to Sorriso, from Sorriso to Sinop and in the Sinop segment.
