In celebration of International Museum Dayofficially celebrated on May 18, states and municipalities across Brazil organize themselves to prepare special programs for the National Museum Weekan event organized annually by the Brazilian Institute of Museums (Ibram), which reaches its 22nd edition in 2024. In Tocantins, the Casa de Memória de Lajeado and the Palacinho Museum will have special programs on their premises, taking place between the 13th and 18th , under the coordination of the Secretariat of Culture (Secult), and the Instituto Amigos do Palacinho, respectively.
Following the national theme, “Museums, Education and Research”, the special programs begin on May 13th, with an opening ceremony at the Palacinho Museum, starting at 8:30 am, which will be attended by the governor of Tocantins Wanderlei Barbosa. With the opening, the week will have a series of activities throughout the days, which include lectures, workshops, conversation circles, among other actions.
On May 15th, Secult will hold a night of conversations at Casa de Memória de Lajeado around themes that allude to the week and museums as a space to promote culture and history. The evening will feature a lecture with the theme “Place of Memory and Museological Action”, followed by a conversation that will bring an important debate about museums and places of memory in Tocantins, which will be attended by the Secretary of Culture Tião Pinheiro, the coordinator of Social Museology and Education at Ibram, Marielle Costa Gonçalves, as well as professors and researchers from state and federal public institutions. The initiatives aim to promote the dissemination and appreciation of historical heritage and intensify the population’s relationship with these places.
