A team made up of 11 soldiers from the Espírito Santo Military Fire Department (CBMES) left this Friday (3) towards Rio Grande do Sul to assist in the search and care for victims of the recent rains that hit the state. The dogs Brisa and Fênix also participate in the team on the mission.
The garrison is made up of soldiers from the Specialized Disaster Response Center (Cerd), the CBMES unit specialized in responding to major disasters.
Firefighters left Vitória around 11am this Friday and are expected to be in Rio Grande do Sul on Sunday morning (5).
“Espírito Santo recently suffered from heavy rains that hit 13 municipalities and left a trail of destruction and, unfortunately, loss of life. Now we see the same thing happening in Rio Grande do Sul. I promptly made our structure available to Governor Eduardo Leite and we are sending soldiers and dogs to help search for victims”, said Governor Renato Casagrande.
On social media, Casagrande also said that at this time it is important that everyone can help.
“As we have a reference Fire Department in Brazil, we will be able to help in any way possible”, he stated.
The trip of Espírito Santo military personnel to Rio Grande do Sul was authorized by the Espírito Santo governor. As soon as authorization was granted, firefighters began mobilizing and preparing materials, so that the exit could occur as quickly as possible.
The convoy consists of two pickup trucks, a minibus, a truck and a trailer to transport the dogs. The garrison is also taking four boats, two drones and search and rescue equipment.
