From now on, everyone over 6 months of age can be vaccinated against the flu. The Ministry of Health announced the expansion of the campaign to all age groups. The Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, highlighted the importance of this measure. “Vaccination is essential to protect the health of the population and prevent its spread, especially during the colder seasons, when the incidence of influenza tends to increase.”

It is worth remembering that the Northern Region of the country started vaccination against flu in November last year, becoming a pioneer in this anticipation. For this reason, this region is not included in this new stage of the campaign.

The campaign began in priority audiences in March

The flu vaccination campaign in 2024 started earlier in the Northeast, Central-West, South and Southeast Regions, with vaccines being distributed to the Federated Units and their respective municipalities at the beginning of March, focused on priority groups.

With the expansion, the Ministry of Health seeks to guarantee greater vaccination coverage and, consequently, a reduction in complications and hospitalizations caused by the flu. Vaccination is one of the most effective tools to prevent outbreaks and ensure the health of the population during the autumn and winter seasons.

Even with the expansion to everyone over 6 months of age, the Ministry of Health highlights the importance of protecting groups most vulnerable to complications from the flu, such as pregnant women, women who have recently given birth, the elderly, children under five years of age and people with comorbidities or clinical conditions. specials.
