The Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration and Resocialization of the State of Ceará participated in the fourth phase of “Operation Mute”, coordinated by the National Secretariat of Penal Policies (Senappen), of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.

The action aims to identify and remove electronic devices located in prison units as a way to combat illicit communication by organized crime and reduce violence rates nationwide. The operation involves federal and state criminal police officers in 51 prison units.

The Professor José Jucá Neto Prison Unit (UP-Itaitinga3) was the first unit inspected in this phase. In Ceará, the initiative included the participation of teams of criminal police officers from the penitentiary establishment itself, the Penitentiary Actions Group (GAP), the SAP Intelligence Coordination, the Special Prison Administration Coordination (Coeap), the Inspection and Inspection, in addition to federal criminal police.

“Operation Mute” is the largest carried out by Senappen in the context of combating organized crime, due to the number of participating states, number of federal and state criminal police officers involved and state prison units searched. The action takes place in all federative units, through magazine “coordination groups” with the priority objective of removing cell phones from the main penal establishments in Brazil, being orchestrated by the Coordination of Projects and Innovation (Copiin/Dipen/Senappen) and intelligence agencies of the criminal police of the states involved in the operation.

The secretary of penitentiary administration and resocialization, Mauro Albuquerque, highlights the importance of the operation. “This type of initiative is essential to maintain order in units, in addition to reducing crime inside and outside the prison system. With the constant maintenance of security protocols carried out by criminal police officers, illicit materials are still blocked from entering. This shows the importance of combating irregularities on a daily basis, reflecting positive results and success in the operation,” he said.
