The state of Pernambuco is already confirmed in the extensive schedule of the Tea Culture Week in Brazil, which takes place between July 29 It is August 4 2024. The event will feature workshops, courses, promotions, tastings and special actions promoted by tea and infusion brands throughout Brazil, all open to the general public in digital and in-person formats.

Paulo Leite, businessman and regional coordinator, states that people from Pernambuco are discovering the potential of tea and that their favorites are Japanese green tea – much sought after by doctors and nutritionists –, black tea and toasted yerba mate infusion, with emphasis on ice cream consumption.

Week wants to form a more critical public in Pernambuco

According to Paulo, there is still confusion on the part of consumers when it comes to differentiating teas and infusions and it is necessary to educate the public so that good choices can be made in terms of quality. The Week’s events will be important to clarify issues such as, for example, the use of artificial flavorings, the importance of storage, differences between sachets, encouraging more demanding consumers.

“There is a curious misconception when we talk about tea. Most people relate the drink directly to hot preparation, but iced consumption is high.” Furthermore, Paulo mentions that there is a myth about the product not working in hot regions, but consumption goes much further.

“There is a memory related to medicinal benefits, but there are groups that like the flavor, the ritual, travel memories, memories of special moments and that they consume mostly in their homes. The challenge for tea specialists is to offer less artificial options in the trade and from different categories, with competitive prices and margins and this requires a lot of perseverance to carry out effective educational and sensorial work”, he says.

For him, Tea Week gains extra importance beyond its reach in the community. It is an opportunity for connection that can also generate partnerships and good negotiations, boosting the sector’s economy.

Pernambuco stands out for its good options of specialized locations

Paulo says that tea has found its way into cafés and gastronomy in general, which is why businesses in Pernambuco have included the quality drink on their menus.

“In Recife, we have Teashop, Tea One – focusing on iced options with bubbles -, The Coffee, authorial brands such as Viva Lia with teas and incense, Kãfa and our brand, O Chá da Casa, already present in houses such as SoLo, Kaffe, Borsoi, Celeste Café, Motche, CoffeeCube, Manu Tenório Culinária Saudável, Sorveteria Jazzlato, Motche Restô, Furdunço Café, Tutto Thu and Entre Vinhos”, he mentions, also remembering the cities of Caruaru and Vitória de Santo Antão, with the coffee shops Bendito Grão and Amor por Café.

The schedule in Pernambuco for the Tea Culture Week in Brazil is still being defined and will soon be announced on the official website: www.semanadocha.com.br.
