When people ask me what Santa Catarina is like, I usually say that it is a State that has several “States” within itself. There are different ways, different formats – even in the relief itself – that make up a Santa Catarina unit that has learned and knows how to live with its own differences.
And there is nothing more representative of these differences than the football played in Nosso Estado, in Nossa Santa Catarina. It’s Criciúma, Tigrão, who is different from Chapecoense, the beloved Chape, who is very different from Joinville, our Jec, who is totally the opposite of the grace-filled Leão da Ilha Formosa, Avaí, and Figueirense, neighborhood of Figueira ao Estreito.

Bahia beats Criciúma in the third phase of the Copa do Brasil
I confess to you. Due to one of those accidents along the way, I was born outside of here. Things about life and the paths she reserved for my parents for a short time. But I’m from Santa Catarina and I won’t give up on that. I’m from Santa Catarina, very root. From a family from Santa Catarina, raised my entire life here, between Trindade, in Floripa, and Barreiros, in São José, passing through Zofa, in Tubarão, living, living and raising my children in Pedra Branca, in Palhoça.
I saw the birth of TV Catarinense, which later became RBS Santa Catarina, which became NSC, from me, from Nossa Santa Catarina. First he was a spectator, like most of the people of this land. But of the 45 years of this story, 27 (and counting) I lived inside. I became a producer and didn’t even know how to speak. I got married, had children, and today I talk all the time, communicating with pride and satisfaction the stories of Our Saint Catherine, trying to understand and trying to make people understood.

I saw Roberto, I saw Miguel, I saw Nardela, Marquinhos, Fernandes… and I went everywhere. The boy who sat all afternoon in the stands at Aníbal Costa to watch Hercílio Luz train, started going to Scarpelli, Ressacada, Heriberto Hulse, Arena Condá… and started talking about our football to the entire country. And it’s not like Our Saint Catherine took me to Qatar, to talk about Neymar, Mbappé, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. It was the World Cup, my friends. But I’m still here, telling the stories that make our people, our fans, proud.

I was asked to make a declaration of love for Our State. It’s not simple, because it makes you emotional, it makes you proud. Because this Our Santa Catarina is naughty, it messes with us. But talking about Our State is a satisfaction, with everything it is, with everything it represents for all of us… with everything that Our Santa Catarina does like no one else does. Thank you NSC! Thank you Our Santa Catarina!
