The suspect of running over and killing three people on BA-667, in the city of Santa Cruz da Vitória, in the south of Bahia, had his preventive arrest ordered by the Civil Police this Thursday (2). The suspect, identified as Eduardo Júnior Dias dos Santoswas not found in the homes provided by him and, according to family members, is traveling.

The case happened in the early hours of March 3 this year. Four young people – two men and two women – left a vaquejada party and were walking along the highway, when a speeding car hit the group of friends.

According to information from the Civil Police, during the investigation “evidence of intentional crimes by Eduardo dos Santos against the people who were run over” was found.

“The perpetrator of the incident, from the moment he left the parking lot, displayed conduct that was clearly incompatible with the circumstances, driving the vehicle at high speed, which culminated, a few meters ahead, in violently running over the victims” , says the police note, which reinforces the follow-up of efforts to arrest the suspect, whose location is unknown.

For the police, Eduardo Júnior said he was driving the car when a speeding motorcycle appeared and he had to swerve. He also said that he only saw the four people on the road after the collision and claimed that he did not provide help for fear of reprisals.

The driver’s defense also stated that the suspect had not drunk alcohol at the party, that the client has no criminal record and has never been fined due to traffic accidents.

The people who died after the collision were identified as:

  • Luiz Carlos Barboza Santos, 19 years old;
  • Diane Novais Santos, 26 years old;
  • Wesley da Silva Santos, 23 years old.

According to witnesses, the suspect tried to have a relationship with Diane, however, she did not give in to his advances. The “no” would have been the motivation for the run over. Luiz Carlos and Diane died at the scene of the accident.

Wesley and a fourth victim, whose name was not released, were rescued and taken to the Itabuna Base Hospital. The boy died hours later, and the fourth victim survived.
