In an online public consultation, 97.2% of participants were in favor of the proposal to requalify the Commercial Sector of Quadra 8 in Sobradinho, prepared by the Secretariat of Urban Development and Housing (Seduh). The virtual questionnaire was completed on April 27, with 323 responses from participants.
For the majority of the participating population, the most important thing to be done in the project area is the improvement of sidewalks with accessible paving (85.4%). Next, the installation of more public lighting posts appears as a priority for change (81.4%); the installation of a security system (79.6%); the implementation of benches and trash bins (75.2%); and the implementation of cycle paths (67.5%).

Regarding the specific area of Praça Teodoro Freire, part of the project in question, in addition to the demands for lighting, improvement of sidewalks and tree planting, stands out the request for the recovery of the children’s playground (77.4%) and the implementation of a public bathroom ( 72.4%).
Also regarding the square, it was determined which activities the participants would like to be offered there. Among the possibilities, the most voted were: open-air markets (80.8%); pergolas and seating areas (79.9%); cultural events (78%) and kiosks (76.8%).
The questionnaire also investigated the main problems identified by the local population. Leading the options are damaged sidewalks (86.1%), the lack of adequate lighting (77.7%) and damaged street furniture (72.8%). Next, problems appear to be the lack of accessibility (65.9%) and the absence of a cycle path (63.2%).

It is worth mentioning that the profile of participants in the public consultation was mostly female, representing 54.5% of the total. Regarding age, 53.3% are between 36 and 60 years old, 35.9% between 19 and 35 years old and 6.5% over 60 years old. Furthermore, the majority of participants (90.7%) live in Sobradinho.
“Having received the population’s contribution to this consultation is extremely important, as the perspective of those who frequent the space is the best diagnosis we can have to develop our projects”, stated Seduh’s Undersecretary of Infrastructure Projects and Licensing, Vitor Recondo.
Next steps
Seduh’s technical area will evaluate the relevant suggestions from the population and make the necessary changes. The project must then be approved by ordinance.
