Thursday (2) should start with unstable weather in the areas of Santa Catarina close to Rio Grande do Sul. The arrival of a cold front is expected, coming from the state of Rio Grande do Sul. She must provoke intense rains and thunderstorms in Santa Catarinaaccording to Civil Defense.

During the day, these weather conditions should extend to the rest of the state. Therefore, Civil Defense warned of risks of flooding, floods, landslides, damage to the electrical network, falling tree branches and roofing.

The advance of the cold front should also bring northwest winds with gusts between 50 and 65 km/h in the West, Vale do Itajaí and higher areas of the state.

The afternoons must be hot. Maximum temperatures can reach 26°C in the Serra, 30°C in the West and South, 31°C in Greater Florianópolis, 32°C in the Itajaí Valley and 35°C in the North.

Rain expected to continue on Friday

For Friday (3), the Civil Defense forecast is that the cold front will continue in Santa Catarina, maintaining the condition for heavy rain in much of the state.

Thunderstorms with lightning, gusts of wind and hail are also expected.

Accumulated rainfall between Thursday and Friday could exceed 200 millimeters in the West, Serra and South, areas closest to the border with the state of Rio Grande do Sul. This amount is equivalent to the historical average for the month of May, according to Epagri/Ciram, an organization that monitors meteorological conditions in Santa Catarina.

As a result, these areas are at high risk for damage.

In Vale do Itajaí and Greater Florianópolis, the accumulation should be around 100 millimeters, with the historical average for May in the region being up to 130 millimeters.

In these places, the risk of damage is moderate. In the North, it is low.

  • avoid submerged bridges and bridges;
  • pay extra attention to children.
