The central region of the Federal District has been the focus of data collection for the Expanded District Household Sample Survey (Pdad-A), carried out by the Federal District Research and Statistics Institute (IPEDF). Home visits continued even on this Labor Day holiday.

Collection agents hired by IPEDF are going door to door in the administrative regions of Plano Piloto, Southwest, Lago Sul and Lago Norte, which, according to the institute, are the locations with the lowest rate of application of questionnaires. PDAD’s goal is to visit 25 thousand homes in the 35 administrative regions (RAs) of the DF, including Água Quente and Arapoanga, and 12 neighboring municipalities in Goiás.

The coordinator of Socioeconomic Research at IPEDF, Jusçanio Souza, highlights that the forecast is that data collection will continue until the end of June. “More than 70% of the data has already been collected and, in this last stage, we are working in the areas where we have the greatest refusal, which are in the regions of Plano Piloto, Southwest, Northwest and in the South and North lakes, which historically are areas in which we have a higher rate of rejection of research”, he says. The survey began in November 2023.

On the afternoon of this Wednesday (1st), collection agent Juliana Santos, who has been applying the research since January and has already worked on other statistical surveys, felt firsthand the difficulties in carrying out the research in blocks 700 of Asa Norte. “My biggest difficulty is being served by the residents. It’s an important survey, but many residents don’t even come to the door. Generally, those I manage to speak to raise awareness of the importance of participating,” she reports.

One of the people who agreed to be interviewed was federal public servant João Rodrigues, aged 64. “Any and all research is important to me, as long as the objective is related to the responsibilities and obligations that the government has with society, with the city, and identifies the basic needs that the city lacks, such as, for example, infrastructure, and that serves as a basis for public policies”, he believes.

Engineer Talita Dornelas, 38 years old, also participated in the survey and highlighted the scope of the questioning. “I found the research to be very broad, it addresses many aspects of citizens’ lives and I believe it will be useful in directing government programs, identifying where greater action is needed and what type of policies are necessary for each location. Through the questionnaire, I believe it will create an image of what the DF is like as a whole”, she highlights.

Jusçanio Souza also emphasizes that it is essential that the population knows the benefits of research. According to him, to achieve a quantitative sample of the region, a certain number of residents and households in each region must respond to the questionnaire. “We appeal to the sensitivity of residents to participate in the research, as the population’s refusal jeopardizes the process. The agents are identified, with vests, badges and even a barcode that allows them to confirm the IPEDF researcher’s data, and, if the resident wants, they can also call the institute to verify this information”, he says.

All researchers are identified with the symbol of the Government of the Federal District (GDF) and the company contracted for the survey. The uniform consists of a vest, cap, shirt and badge with QR Code. This code gives access to the Valida Pesquisador platform and automatically shows the photo, name, registration number, company and research to which the agent is associated. If this information does not appear, the researcher is not validated by IPEDF.

Extended range

Pdad-A is the update of the District Household Sample Survey (PDAD) and comprises, in addition to the urban area, the rural area of the DF and the municipalities of Goiás that make up the Surrounding Area, adding the locations previously covered by the Rural PDAD and the Metropolitan Household Sample Survey (PMAD).

The data obtained will be used by public managers in the development and implementation of policies suited to the needs of the population, in addition to more effective investments. “We have already held seven editions of PDAD and this allows us to understand and monitor the socioeconomic profile of the DF. It is a study that, in fact, makes it possible to support government actions and public policies, as well as identify needs in the regions, population growth and aging and know whether RAs are growing or decreasing”, highlights the IPEDF coordinator.

In addition to the central region, collection agents continue interviewing residents of 17 administrative regions: Águas Claras, Arapoanga, Arniqueira, Brazlândia, Cruzeiro, Gama, Guará, Jardim Botânico, Plano Piloto, Recanto das Emas, Riacho Fundo, Samambaia, São Sebastião, Sobradinho, Sobradinho II, Sol Nascente/Pôr do Sol and Vicente Pires. In Goiás, collection is being carried out in Alexânia, Cidade Oeste, Cocalzinho, Luziânia, Padre Bernardo, Planaltina and Valparaíso.

Details of Pdad-A 2023 are available to the population on this website. It is possible to check the researcher’s registration, make suggestions or criticisms, in addition to understanding the main points of the survey.
