The storms that hit Rio Grande do Sul cause changes in the weather in Santa Catarina starting this Wednesday (1st). According to Civil Defense, intense rain is forecast in all regions of the State, especially in municipalities that border the state of Rio Grande do Sul, until next Friday (3).

This Wednesday, some cities are already recording rain. However, according to Epagri/Ciram, it is from this Thursday (2), that they advance in an intense and voluminous way through the West, Planalto Sul and Litoral Sul regions and, throughout the day, to other areas of Santa Catarina.

The risk, according to Civil Defense, is moderate to high for events related to flooding, floods, electrical network roofing and landslides. There are warnings for storms with a risk of electrical discharges, gusts of wind and hail.

According to Marilene de Lima, meteorologist at Epagri/Ciram, an organization that monitors the weather in the State, the rains are not expected to arrive in Santa Catarina with the same intensity that hits Rio Grande do Sul. However, there are still warnings for occurrences in the regions which border the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

— The areas that are most susceptible are from the West region to the South of the State, those closest to Rio Grande do Sul and the Itajaí Valley. On Saturday the weather starts to improve and for Sunday the weather is a little firmer, without rain, — says the meteorologist.

Between Thursday and Friday (3), the volume of rain should vary between 150 millimeters and 200 millimeters in the Far-West, West, Midwest, Southern Plateau and South Coast regions. Civil Defense also warns that these values ​​can be exceeded, especially in regions that border Rio Grande do Sul.

In the regions of the South Coast, Alto Vale do Itajaí and Grande Florianópolis, volumes should be around 100 millimeters.

  • Do not travel on submerged bridges or bridges;

  • Strengthen safety on roofs and structures that may be affected by strong winds;
  • Avoid outdoor activities during storms and seek a sheltered location;
  • Pay attention to the tilt of posts and trees;
  • Pay attention to earth movements or rocks near your home;
  • Keep an eye out for cracks in walls and walls.

Damage in Rio Grande do Sul

Rio Grande do Sul has been hit by heavy rains since Monday. According to Civil Defense, 77 municipalities recorded incidents. Eight deaths have already been confirmed and 21 people are missing.

In total, according to g1 information, 19,110 people were affected by the storms. Of these, 1,145 are in shelters and 1,431 are homeless.

Two of the deaths occurred in Paverama, when a car was swept away by the flood. The third was in Pantano Grande, which killed a man. Two women also lost their lives, one in Encantado and the other on the border between Itaara and Santa Maria. The sixth victim died in Salvador do Sul, after a landslide destroyed houses.

Disappearances were recorded in Candelária (eight people), Encantado (six) and Roca Sales (four).

On Tuesday night (30), Leite asked President Lula (PT) to send aid to the affected cities “urgently”. The federal government has already sent two Brazilian Air Force (FAB) aircraft to rescue stranded people.
