Former president refers to the possible dispute for the Bolsonarist electorate between governors Tarcísio de Freitas and Ronaldo Caiado
Ineligible until 2030, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said it was too early to decide who he would support in the 2026 presidential elections. When participating in Agrishow (International Agricultural Technology Fair in Action) on Monday (29.Apr.2024), he stated that “planted seeds” in the field of the Brazilian right during his 4 years in government.
Bolsonaro made the statement alongside the governors of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), and of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil). Questioned by CNN Brazil whether a dispute would be open between the 2 governors for the Bolsonarist electorate, the former president responded: “I just argue [as eleições de] 2026 after 2024”.
In his speech at Agrishow, one of the country’s main agricultural fairs, Bolsonaro praised both Tarcísio and Caiado. The former president stated that the governor of São Paulo is a “fantastic person” with a capacity “almost unparalleled”. Afterwards, Bolsonaro pointed to Caiado and said that the right “there are older seeds too” with “conditions to germinate and bear good fruit for the country”.
The former president declared: “If I don’t come back one day, don’t worry. We planted seeds throughout our 4 years [de governo]who also discovered that they have the capacity to take this great country called Brazil forward”.
