Vice-governor Tadeu de Souza participates in the 314th Meeting of the Suframa Board of Directors, which approved investments of R$ 1.73 billion

The Government of Amazonas advances in actions that combine job creation, energy transition and economic diversification. This Tuesday (30/04), vice-governor Tadeu de Souza participated, as an advisor, in the 314th Meeting of the Suframa Board of Directors (CAS), via videoconference, which approved projects that will generate 1,028 new jobs in the Manaus Industrial Hub (PIM).

The new jobs are linked to 26 industrial projects, whose investments total R$1.73 billion. Among the projects is that of the Chinese company BYD to manufacture batteries for electric buses. The project had already been approved at the meeting of the Amazonas Development Council (Codam) on April 25th and, with the approval of CAS, will receive state and federal tax incentives to be implemented.

The arrival of the Chinese giant to the Manaus Free Trade Zone (ZFM) industrial park is the result of the articulation made by governor Wilson Lima during an appointment in China, in January this year, to increase Asian capital in the local industry. Tadeu de Souza said that the release of investments that generate new jobs is proof that Amazonas is experiencing a moment of strengthening its economy.

“Today’s meeting approved projects that, more than ever, demonstrate that the Manaus Industrial Pole, after five decades of implementation, still maintains its adaptability capacity, to receive new projects, and contribute to the national decarbonization and of energy transition”, stated the vice-governor, after analyzing and approving the projects.

Also present at the meeting, the head of the State Secretariat for Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Sedecti), Serafim Corrêa, stated that the approved projects represent the consolidation of an industrial policy focused on generating more jobs for the population, in in line with the national strategy to promote the green economy.

“Codam’s agenda from last Thursday is practically the same as today’s agenda from the Suframa Board of Directors. With this, the State Government and the Federal Government are working together to welcome new companies. There are more than R$1.7 billion in investments. This is something very positive”, emphasized the secretary.

Economic diversification
Also during the CAS debates, vice-governor Tadeu de Souza highlighted the efforts of the Government of Amazonas to develop projects linked to new economic matrices, such as environmental licenses for the exploration of potassium in the municipality of Autazes (112 kilometers from Manaus ), which will allow the production of fertilizers used by Brazilian agribusiness.

In the preparation and construction phase of the complex alone, the forecast is to generate 2,600 direct jobs to 4,200 at the peak of the work, over the next four years. The company Potássio do Brasil has already started the process of hiring field staff by receiving CVs and, soon, with the selection of personnel.

The executive secretary of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), Márcio Elias Rosa, who chaired the virtual meeting, recognized the work done by the State Government in the search for economic alternatives that complement the ZFM model.

“Amazonas has set good examples for the whole of Brazil. The country has a brutal external dependence on fertilizers that reaches 90%. So, these investments come at a good time, even to confirm our agricultural potential worldwide. Congratulations,” emphasized the MDIC representative.

The CAS meeting was also led by the head of the Superintendence of the Manaus Free Zone (ZFM), Bosco Saraiva. Also participating were the vice-governor of Roraima, Edilson Maranhão; the director of the Amapá Development Agency, Jurandir do Santos; the Finance Secretary of the city of Porto Velho (RO), João Caetano dos Santos; and the president of the Federation of Industries of the State of Amazonas (Fieam), Antônio Silva.

For the Federal Government, representatives from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Tanara Lauschner; from the Ministry of Finance, José Pereira de Barros Neto; from the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development, Valder Ribeiro de Moura; from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Dionísia Soares; from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Deise Camilo Jorge; and the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), Marina Moreira da Gama.
