Switzerland expressed interest in having President Lula (PT) at the high-level summit that will debate peace between Russia and Ukraine, according to Itamaraty.

The conference will take place between June 15th and 16th, on the outskirts of the city of Lucerne (Switzerland), and should be attended by heads of state, including the President of the United States, Joe Biden. More than 100 countries are being invited to the event.

Switzerland’s intention to count on Brazil was expressed during Chancellor Mauro Vieira’s schedule in Switzerland, which will host the event.

In a first contact, before the official invitation, Brazil indicated that it only agreed to participate in the debate with the presence of Russia, which should not happen. The Kremlin has already made it clear that it does not want to participate in the initiative, as it considers the event to be a project of “American Democrats”.

Since January, Switzerland has been discussing the organization of a conference to discuss the creation of a structure that favors the debate on peace in Ukraine, with Russia’s participation in the debate.

The event was a request from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is discussing the event with the European Union, G7 members and countries such as China and India, who are trying to convince the Russians.

Brazil understands that the Russians must participate in any international initiative that discusses peace and involves negotiation with Kiev.

In the evaluation of Brazilian diplomacy, it is not possible to debate the conflict between two actors without the participation of one of them.

Moscow says it is not against peace negotiations, but it also says it will not participate in the debates in Switzerland because it believes the country has abandoned neutrality in relation to the war.

Historically neutral, Switzerland has acted as a mediator in other conflicts in the past and now intends to seek a resolution to this war, which has lasted more than two years.
