Visitors
Embratur released yesterday a ranking of the states that received the most foreign tourists in March this year, which in the case of SC is already the beginning of the low season, centered on summer. Across the country there were 740 thousand, a record in the historical series for that month since 1989. SC took the honorable 5th place, with 58,198 and São Paulo in 1st, with 242,956.

Nazism
As it is a Bolsonarist state, it even seemed that for this reason the Lulist National Council for Human Rights had chosen SC, at the beginning of this month, to investigate the supposed increase in the number of neo-Nazi groups here. He held interviews in Florianópolis and Blumenau. It seemed good, since yesterday the same CNDH announced that it will make more visits, now to Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and São Paulo, with the same objective. Coincidentally, everyone was sympathetic to the former president.

Improvisation
Regarding a note here, Saturday, citing a survey that pointed out SC as a State that currently has more than 60% of its teachers admitted on a temporary basis (ACTs), the state government released an official note, regarding the strike in teaching, stating that it is currently working in the “largest competition in history to hire 10 thousand new education professionals”.

Headache 1
A decree from Lula would be enough to end the long process of demarcating 14 indigenous territories in the country. It was not this time. The case of Morro dos Cavalos, in Palhoça, occupied by around 300 indigenous people, is involved in a political dispute. The state government, mayors, deputies and senators from the Santa Catarina bench (except those from the PT), allege that the process was rigged and that indigenous people only began to occupy it in the 90s, after the time frame.

Headache 2
The case reached the Federal Supreme Court in 2014 and a CPI against Funai in 2016. Parliamentarians from the ruralist bench accused some NGOs of taking indigenous people from Paraguay to take up residence there. Now everything goes back to zero with the sensible decision of the “supreme” minister Gilmar Mendes, who ordered to stop all actions that question the validity of the time frame law, until the STF gives a definitive opinion on the issue and installs a process of mediation and conciliation, under its coordination. The soap opera continues.

Kindness
To mark the passing of Abril Azul, autism awareness month, state deputy Vicente Caropreso (PSDB) filed a bill that creates the “Autistic Seal on Board”. It identifies the vehicle that transports a person with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). So, anyone who sees it is warned not to honk. As we know, a shrill sound causes loss of control, especially in autistic people.

Rest
The SC Highway Police gave its consent and the Legislative Assembly’s Transport Committee approved a project for the corporation’s internal yards to be stopping points for truck drivers to rest. Now it just needs to be voted on in plenary.

Anti-drug vaccines
President of the Anti-Drug Commission of the Legislative Assembly, state deputy Lucas Neves (Podemos), was at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, in Belo Horizonte, to learn about the work of scientists who are developing the anti-drug vaccine, CalixCoca, which induces the immune system to produce antibodies that bind to the drug in the bloodstream. The project, started in 2015 and with effective results in pre-clinical studies, has stages that will be carried out in SC, in partnership with the Center for Innovation and Pre-Clinical Trials (Cienp), in Florianópolis, which is a reference in Brazil in testing new immunizers, with cutting-edge technology recognized by Anvisa.

Re-elected
Lawyer Giancarlo Castelan, partner at Menezes Niebuhr Sociedade de Advogados, remains president of the Center for the Study of Law Firms – SC Section, for the three-year period 2024-2027. CESA is a non-profit civil association that brings together law firms across the country to serve their interests, in addition to promoting dialogue and studies on legal topics related to the practice of the profession.

Celebration
The Civil Police of SC, now recognized by the national media as one of the most effective in Brazil – 80% solving homicide crimes in the State in the first four months of this year – thinks it can make further progress. The goal is to reach 89% in 2026, a rate comparable to the best in the world. Good luck!
