After request for help of Governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Tuesday (30) that the federal government is ‘at the disposal’ of Rio Grande do Sul, which suffers from heavy rains.

Lula made the statement on X, formerly Twitter, after the governor of Rio Grande do Sul asked the president for “every possible message” via the same social network.

“I spoke on the phone with the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, and made the federal government available to Rio Grande do Sul, which is once again suffering from heavy rains,” wrote Lula.

“I spoke with the ministries of Integration, Defense and Minister Pimenta and, whatever is necessary, the federal government will join the efforts of the state government and city halls to get us through and overcome this difficult moment, reflections of climate change that affect the planet”, added the president.

Earlier, Eduardo Leite said it was I urgently need to rescue residents of cities that are in an emergency situation.

“President Lula, please IMMEDIATELY send all possible air support to RS. We need to rescue hundreds of people NOW in dozens of municipalities who are in an emergency situation due to the intense rains that have already occurred and which will continue in the coming days”, said the governor .

At the time, the rains caused scattered disruption and five deaths, unlike the September floods – which resulted in more than 50 deaths.
