PRF starts Yellow May 2024 Movement in Pernambuco

This Tuesday (30), the city of Caruaru, in the Agreste of Pernambuco, hosted the launch of the Yellow May 2024 Movement, a joint effort to preserve life and safe mobility.

The action brought together federal, state and municipal agencies, as well as civil society entities, with the aim of reducing violence on the roads, strengthening traffic education and promoting partnerships between the institutions involved.

The opening of the event took place at Km 57 of BR 104, in front of the Federal Highway Police Station (PRF).

There, awareness actions were carried out about the vulnerability and responsibility of all agents involved in traffic, using educational approaches, distribution of educational material and lectures on a bus adapted from the Cinema Rodoviário project.

Throughout the month of May, traffic education work will go beyond the highways.

The PRF will promote permanent traffic education and awareness actions, with lectures in schools for children and adults, and for companies that operate fleets, in addition to partner institutions.

On these occasions, police officers draw attention to the importance of safe traffic, as suggested by the color yellow, which is a reference to the traffic light whose lighting warns the driver.

In addition to the PRF, the Pernambuco State Traffic Department (Detran-PE), Pernambuco Military Police (PMPE), Pernambuco Military Fire Department (CBMPE), Caruaru Mobility, Traffic and Transport Authority (AMTTC) participated in the launch. , Social Transport Service (Sest-Senat) and Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU).

Causes of Claims

In 2023, 2999 traffic accidents were recorded on Pernambuco’s federal highways, which left 3848 injuries and 277 deaths.

The main cause of death last year was driving the wrong way, which took the lives of 53 people, and is generally associated with undue overtaking.

Next comes the driver’s lack of reaction, which resulted in 37 deaths, and the driver’s late or inefficient reaction, with 27 deaths, which may be associated with the driver’s lack of rest, using a cell phone or not maintaining a safe distance. of the other vehicle.

It is an international awareness movement to reduce traffic accidents. On May 11, 2011, the UN declared the Decade of Action for Road Safety.

As a result, the month of May has become a global reference for taking stock of the actions that the entire world takes.

The initiative seeks to put the topic of traffic on the agenda for society, with a focus on encouraging the participation of the population, companies, governments and entities.
