Here comes the bride… Over the years, there has been a significant increase in the number of divorces in Brazil, reflecting changes in family dynamics and social values.
According to the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), on average, a marriage in Brazil lasts around 13.8 years, a period that has been consistently decreasing over the last decade. Compared to data from 2009, when the average was 17.5 years, there was a considerable reduction of four years in this period.

Rondônia has one of the shortest marriage durations in the country, recording an average of 10.4 years. Meanwhile, the states of Piauí and Rio Grande do Sul stand out for the longest periods of union, with averages of 17.6 and 16.7 years, respectively.
In Santa Catarina, a similar trend of reduction in the average length of marriages is observed. If in 2021 the average was 15.1 years, today it is in the range of 13.8 years, signaling a change in relationship patterns and marital expectations.
