The Public Ministry launched an application to monitor indigenous populations in Paraná. The objective of the “Geoindigenous Project” is to strengthen the defense of the rights of original communities in the state. The platform developed by the Technical Support Center for Execution (CAEx) brings together updated information about this population. According to the Attorney General of Justice, Francisco Zanicotti, the system highlights the reality of these communities.

This database contains information such as how many people live in each village, the number of children and elderly people, the proximity to health units, among other features. The system allows you to define a profile of these communities, according to public prosecutor Olympio de Sá Sotto Maior Neto.

The application should help ensure access to medical care, vaccines, education, social benefits and security. The agency’s next step is to bring teams of ministerial agents to visit each of the mapped communities. According to the 2022 Census, Paraná has more than 30,000 self-declared indigenous people, from the Kaingang, Guarani and Xetá ethnic groups, who live in 80 villages spread across 56 municipalities.
