Palmeiras and São Paulo played out a goalless draw tonight at Morumbi, in a match marked by the physical game proposal of the home team and the banality of Wilton Pereira Sampaio, who is certainly in the top 5 worst Brazilian referees of all time.

With equality, Verdão reached 5 points and is only 12th in the table, after 4 rounds. The team scored just one goal and had the second worst attack in the competition, ahead of Cuiabá, who scored none. But Verdão boasts the best defense, with only one goal conceded – against Inter, in Barueri. Our next game for the Brasileirão will be against Cuiabá, at Arena Pantanal.

With few clues as to how the opponent would approach the game, as this is only Luis Zubeldía’s second game in charge of the Morumbi team, Abel opted to play Marcos Rocha on the right, with freedom to attack, with responsibility. Shirt number 2 supported Estêvão and the team really forced the game on that flank.

São Paulo understood the proposal and closed the route, with Welington and Alan Franco supported by Bobadilla and, at times, by André Silva, which meant that the defense maintained numerical superiority. Verdão was unable to shake the opponent’s defense by changing sides, as when the ball reached Richard Ríos and especially Raphael Veiga, the stick would break. The team in white played at will, under the fearful gaze of the judge.

Verdão was not intimidated and hit back, which made the game more the way São Paulo wanted: physical, little or nothing played, which reduced the clear difference that exists today between the two teams – both technical as tactics.

To make matters worse, Endrick was having a very poor, uninspired night. Thus, the first half passed without much chance of scoring – the best opportunity was with Gustavo Gómez, who tested after a corner from the right taken by Veiga – Rafael fell to the left and caught it well.

For the second half, Abel didn’t even wait 15 minutes to change Flaco López for Lázaro, pulling Endrick into command and bringing Veiga closer to the right flank. It worked at first and Endrick created the best chance of the game when he stole the ball from Arboleda inside the area and rolled it to Lázaro; without a goalkeeper, the number 17 played towards the goal, but over Alisson, who was protecting.

São Paulo was still trying to make quick plays, especially after the entry of Ferreirinha, who took advantage of the inversion of our full-backs, after the double change that sent Mayke and Vanderlan onto the field. The number 12 came in to attack, but ended up trapped by the quick left pointer that came from Grêmio and SPFC got a good chance with Calleri, who played well and the ball missed Weverton’s right post.

In the end, without losing the physical characteristic that marked the entire game, the two teams ended up being satisfied with the draw, which persisted until the end, frustrating Morumbi, which received a large audience – made up exclusively of São Paulo residents. Nobody won, but the judge lost, in yet another horrible performance, which irritated everyone, on both sides.

Verdão is now thinking about Botinha de Ribeirão, their opponent in the Copa do Brasil on Thursday, at Allianz Parque, before thinking about Brasileirão again – the team will have to travel to Cuiabá to play on Sunday, making three games in six days. Abel will have to activate the energy management mode. Let Veiga be the first in line, because he really needs it. LET’S GO PALMEIRAS!

He came in willing to respond to fair criticism for the last few games, but he was beaten too much, with the complacency of the criminal with the whistle. He fought until he could no longer stand.
