With the theme For a Fairer Brazil and Mato Grosso, the Central Única dos Trabalhadores de Mato Grosso (CUT-MT) celebrates the 1st of May 2024 by reflecting with the population of Mato Grosso on the struggles of the working class and unity for the resumption of labor and social security rights that were withdrawn by reactionary governments that, in recent years, denied rights to workers.

“Our tribute is to those who carry the world on their shoulders, who are the workers. Holders of the workforce and responsible for all transformations in society”, said the president of CUT-MT, Henrique Lopes.

In 2024, the CUT-MT celebrations will begin with the cultural program, on the 30th, from 6 pm, at Praça da Mandioca, in Cuiabá, with Samba do Trabalhador, bringing a repertoire of rhythm classics with the group Sasmininas , from Cuiabá.

On the 1st of May, the traditional Workers’ Pilgrimage, starting at 7 am, leaving from Caixa d’Água in the CPA 4 neighborhood – Morada da Serra – and heading towards Comunidade São José, in the 1º de Março neighborhood.

In the theme of the celebration For a fairer Brazil and Mato Grosso, workers fight in defense of the repeal of the Labor and Social Security reforms, repeal of the Outsourcing Law, against the New Secondary Education Law, against PEC 32, of the Reform Administrative, for the Valorization of Public Service (defense of convention 151), in defense of Agrarian Reform, correction of the IR table, decent employment, less interest, appreciation of the minimum wage and pensions

The dispute presented on May 1st by CUT-MT and which will be flagged on May 22nd, at the National March, in Brasília, is to put the people in the budget. “The population needs more and better public services. The problem is that there is a reduced budget, as much of it was captured by the financial system – in interest and debt charges – and by the center – R$52 billion from so-called “parliamentary amendments”, recalls the president of CUT-MT, Henrique Lopes .

All the maneuvers carried out since 2017 reveal the impoverishment of the Brazilian and Mato Grosso people. Capital’s policies have served to enrich the rich and super rich at the expense of the working class. “Our objective is to debate against the undue appropriation of this workforce through the process of surplus value by those who own the means of production and appropriate the surplus produced by the worker to accumulate wealth”, concludes the president.
