The Sergipe State Traffic Department (Detran/SE) is holding the official launch of the May Yellow campaign in the state this Thursday, 2nd. The ceremony will take place at 9 am, at the Museu da Gente Sergipana, in Aracaju.
On May 11, 2011, the United Nations (UN) declared the Decade of Action for Road Safety. Thus, the month of May became dedicated worldwide to actions to combat violence in this environment. The color yellow was chosen because it represents warning, attention and care in traffic.
This year, the campaign’s national motto is ‘Peace in traffic starts with you’, which will be worked on through educational actions and the implementation of safety measures, in order to cultivate a more peaceful environment.
According to the Traffic Education coordinator at Detran/SE, Tissiane Costa, the involvement of the entire society in Yellow May is essential. “The month is just a specific moment that reflects the fight for safe traffic, reducing accidents and the fight for life. Throughout the month, actions in the capital and in the interior will take place as a form of awareness and the call is for the whole of society”, she warns.
According to the municipality’s director-president, Naleide de Andrade, the campaign’s main aim is to instigate reflection on changing driver behavior. “Yellow May takes place nationally, and in Sergipe, Detran and other bodies will be together in traffic education”, she adds.
In addition to Detran/SE, the National Department of Infrastructure (DNIT), the State Department of Road Infrastructure of Sergipe (DER/SE), the State Department of Road Infrastructure of Sergipe (DER/SE), the Federal Highway Police (PRF) , the Municipal Transport and Traffic Superintendence (SMTT) of Aracaju, the Sergipe Traffic Police Battalion (BPTRan-SE), the State Highway Police Battalion (BPRV) and the Sergipe State Traffic Council (Cetran) will participate in the campaign in the state.
