The concessionaire Allegra Pacaembu, which took over the management and works of the Pacaembu sports and cultural complex, in the capital of São Paulo, reported this Tuesday (30) that the stadium should be ready on June 29th. The new works schedule was presented today to the Municipal Audit Court (TCM) of São Paulo, during a technical panel.ebc.gif?id=1592978&o=node

The new complex, now called Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu, will bring together nine facilities, including the stadium. According to the company’s executive director, Rafael Carvalho, the stands and the field will be ready for the reopening of the football stadium on June 29th, as well as the swimming pool and tennis court. The multifunctional building is only expected to be completed in October 2024, while other stages of the complex will only be fully available for operation in the first half of 2025. “The concessionaire’s objective is that, at the beginning of next year, the complex will be 100% complete. operational”, said Carvalho.

The old Pacaembu stadium was granted to concessionaire Allegra Pacaembu, which took over management of the complex for a period of 35 years. Since June 2021, the site has been under construction. The initial forecast was that, in January of this year, the new arena would be able to host the final of the São Paulo Junior Football Cup. The São Paulo Football Federation (FPF), which organizes the tournament, even confirmed that the final would be held at the Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu, but, as the works at the site were not yet completed and citing a “lack of security”, the federation decided transfer the championship final to Corinthians’ Neo Química Arena.

Last week, a show by singer Roberto Carlos, which was scheduled to take place at the venue, still under construction, was canceled by the city hall. According to the municipal administration, the decision was taken after an inspection carried out by firefighters and the Department of Property Control and Use (Contru), a body linked to the Housing Department. The two bodies found irregularities at the site such as a lack of emergency exits, no signs of escape routes, emergency exit doors without panic bars, uneven and unfinished flooring due to construction work and an inoperative fire detection system.
