The Jury Court sentenced gas station attendant Beliny Crispim da Silva, aged 42, to 16 years in prison for killing his ex-partner Lusveida Marieli Rondon Zuzarret, aged 31, with a machete. The trial was this Monday (29). The crime happened in April last year.
The victim and the accused had a seven-month relationship and they were separated when the crime occurred. On the day of the crime, witnesses witnessed the suspect attacking the victim and heard him tell her that he would “learn to respect men”, according to the Civil Police.
Motivated by jealousy, he attacked the victim when she returned home, in the Araceli neighborhood, in the capital. Lusveida was killed with blows from a machete, she left a couple of children orphaned, according to the complaint from the Roraima Public Ministry (MPRR).
“The Jury was resounding and understood the importance of exemplarily punishing barbaric crimes like this. It is necessary for society to continue combating feminicide, as violence against women in the country still reaches unacceptable levels, every 6 hours a woman is killed by feminicide in Brazil and Roraima has one of the highest rates proportionally”, highlighted the Prosecutor of Justice, Joaquim Eduardo dos Santos.
As the crime occurred in the context of domestic violence, the accused was convicted of feminicide, with the aggravating factors of a base motive, acting through cruel means and using an ambush, a resource that made the victim’s defense difficult.
The total sentence imposed was 16 years and seven months in prison. He had been in pre-trial detention since the time of the crime, remained in prison during the process and is now beginning to serve his sentence.
