OWN GENERATION OF SOLAR ENERGY IN BAHIA REACHES MORE THAN R$ 6.4 BILLION IN ACCUMULATED INVESTMENTS

-

Bahia has just surpassed the R$6.4 billion mark in accumulated investments in its own solar energy generation, according to mapping by the Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association (ABSOLAR). The state has more than 1.2 gigawatt (GW) of installed power with more than 145 thousand operational connections on roofs, facades and small plots of land, spread across 417 cities, or 100% of the region’s municipalities.

According to the mapping, there are currently more than 229 thousand electricity consumers who already have reduced electricity bills, greater autonomy and electrical reliability. The installed power of solar energy distributed in Bahia places the state in eighth place in the ABSOLAR national ranking. Since 2012, the modality has provided Bahia with the creation of more than 38 thousand jobs and the collection of R$1.9 billion for public coffers.

For Santiago Gonzalez Gil, state coordinator of ABSOLAR in Bahia, the advancement of solar energy in the country is fundamental for the social, economic and environmental development of Brazil and helps to diversify the country’s electricity supply, reducing pressure on water resources. and the risk of a red flag occurring on the population’s electricity bill.

“It is worth highlighting, therefore, that the state of Bahia is currently a main actor in the energy transition to contribute to decarbonization and the fight against climate change in the region. As it is a relevant center for the development of solar energy, it maintains an enormous potential for generating employment and income, with coverage to all municipalities in the state, being an attraction for private investments”, points out the new state coordinator of ABSOLAR in Bahia, Santiago Gonzalez.

For the executive president of ABSOLAR, Rodrigo Sauaia, the growth of own generation of solar energy strengthens sustainability, Brazil’s international protagonism, relieves family budgets and increases the competitiveness of Brazilian productive sectors.

“The solar source is a lever for the country’s development. In particular, we have an immense opportunity to use technology in social programs, such as popular houses under the Minha Casa Minha Vida program, in the universalization of access to electricity through the Luz para Todos program , as well as its use in public buildings, such as schools, hospitals, health centers, police stations, libraries, museums, parks, among others, helping to reduce government spending on electricity so that they have more resources to invest in health, education, public security and other priorities of Brazilian society”, concludes Sauaia.
