Teachers and other workers from Santa Catarina gathered this Tuesday afternoon (30) in front of the Administrative Center (CA) of the Santa Catarina Government, at SC-401, for an event organized by the category’s union. As a result, the highway that connects the North of the Island to the central region records queues in both directions.

According to the Florianópolis Municipal Guard, there is slow traffic in the north direction of two kilometers, between the CA and the cemetery. In the south direction, the queue is four kilometers long, from Santo Antônio de Lisboa to the Administrative Center.

SC government denies teachers’ main demand and will deduct wages due to strike

According to the Union of Education Workers in the State’s Public Education Network (Sinte/SC), around 40% of teaching professionals are on strike. The government, however, speaks of less than 15% adherence.

According to the Secretary of State Administration, Vânio Boing, the State increased the value of the category’s food vouchers last year. This year, the increase should be completed and the daily value should go from R$12 to R$25.

— We are also likely to accept the activity hour text, to be implemented from 2025 — he pointed out.

The category’s main demand is the unpacking of the table — a demand that has existed for 15 years, according to the secretary himself. According to Boing, the State is still studying decompression, for possible long-term implementation.

This Tuesday there should be a new conversation between the union and the state government. However, according to Boing, “we will only be able to evolve into a proposal when the strike ends”.

The government’s expectation is for teachers to return on Thursday (2) in the morning.

Strike reaches seventh day

This Tuesday, teaching workers in Santa Catarina completed seven days of strike. Sinte’s demand is for a new public competition, and career enhancement. Last week, the Secretary of State Administration, Vânio Boing, stated that by the end of the year, the State government must hold a competition for 10 thousand vacancies. The notice must be published by June.

Regarding the demand to unpack the salary table, the Secretary of Administration said it was “absolutely unfeasible”, as it would cost R$4.6 billion and would violate the ceiling of the Fiscal Responsibility Law. Boing also stated, this Tuesday (30), that “there will certainly be a discount” on the salaries of teachers who joined the strike.

According to Evandro Accadrolli, state coordinator of Sinte/SC, teachers’ salaries have been out of date since 2021. Another issue is activity hours for all education workers. He considers this Tuesday’s act one of the “greatest in history”.

— It is important that society, parents and students understand that this moment is for the defense of education. In the state network we have 520 thousand students who depend on quality education and a valued teacher.
