Presented in October last year, a proposal by state deputy Bia de Lima (PT), which changes the State Policy for Purchasing Family Farming Production, was sanctioned by governor Ronaldo Caiado and published in the Official State Gazette last Friday , 26.

According to the new legislation, the objective is to promote the social and economic inclusion of family farmers and the prevention of certain circumstances through measures such as: encouraging the availability of training programs in agricultural management, issuing tax documents and complying with standards phytosanitary; the implementation of an agricultural alert system to provide information on climate, agricultural pests and diseases; the provision of credit lines to cover production losses resulting from natural accidents or pests; the offering of continuous technical monitoring by rural extension agents, to support family farmers in implementing practices that guarantee the regular and constant supply of their production.

The new law also provides for encouraging the adoption of measures aimed at simplifying procedures for issuing tax documents and complying with phytosanitary standards, making them more accessible and understandable for family farmers; the implementation of a monitoring and evaluation system to monitor the effectiveness of the measures implemented, with regular reports on progress and necessary adjustments; the provision of financial and technical subsidies for the diversification of agricultural crops, in order to reduce dependence on a single production and mitigate the risks of loss; the creation of awareness campaigns and incentives for the adoption of good agricultural practices by family farmers, promoting sustainable and resilient cultivation methods; and the creation of specific incentive programs for young people interested in entering family farming, ensuring the continuity of agricultural activities through generational succession.

For Representative Bia, “the changes proposed in the State Policy for Purchasing Family Farming Production aim to strengthen the family agricultural sector, promoting substantial social and economic benefits for family farmers and society as a whole. They reinforce the commitment of the State of Goiás to family farming and the sustainable development of the state’s rural areas”, states the deputy.
