The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a Red alert for risk of high rainfall accumulations in Rio Grande do Sul. The warning is valid until noon this Tuesday (30).

The area at risk crosses the state from west to east, passing through the central strip of RS. The forecast is for rain of more than 60 millimeters per hour or more than 100 millimeters per day. According to Inmet, there is a great risk of flooding and river overflows, as well as landslides.

Furthermore, the entire territory of Rio Grande do Sul is under yellow and orange alerts in storm, valid until the end of Thursday afternoon (2). In addition to the rain, there may be winds of 60 to 100 km/h, with the possibility of hail. There is a risk of electricity cuts, damage to crops, falling trees and flooding.

In addition to rain, there was a tornado recorded in RS

The state Situation Room says a cold front is moving over the ocean along with the flow of moisture. These two phenomena favor rain and strong winds and possible hail in the regions of Porto Alegre, Costa Doce, Center, South and the border with Uruguay.

On Wednesday (1st), there are chances of isolated storms with rain and intense winds in these regions. Until Thursday (2), instability remains in practically the entire state, with the greatest accumulation in the Northern Half and Costa Doce.

In Arroio Grande, in the South Region, it rained more than 90 millimeters. The stream that runs through the city rose and five families were removed from their homes.

The flood of the Quaraí River, on the Western Border, took 10 families out of their homes. The river is more than 50 centimeters above the flood level and, according to the municipality’s Civil Defense, continues to rise.
