Aracaju IAB holds National Architecture and Urbanism Seminar and 178th COSU Meeting in Sergipe 1st ArqUrb.SE and the Superior Council meeting took place in the week of April 22nd to 27th, with the participation of architects from all states represented by IAB

Between the 22nd and 24th of April, Aracaju hosted the 1st National Seminar on Architecture and Urbanism in the state of Sergipe (ArqUrb.SE) and then, from the 25th to the 27th, the 178th Meeting of the IAB Superior Council (COSU). The two events were held by the Sergipe department of the Instituto de Arquitetos do Brasil (IAB-SE), in collaboration with the institution’s national management, bringing together professionals from the 20 states in which the IAB is represented.

The program began on the 22nd (Monday) with the accreditation of participants and the lecture “The Transforming Power of Architecture”. The debates continued until the 24th (Wednesday) with exhibition tables and measurements of the most varied subjects. ArqUrb.SE takes place at the Memorial de Sergipe Profº Jouberto Uchôa (Av. Santos Dumont, 100). The program was also broadcast online.

The opening panel begins at 2pm with the theme “Architecture in the Northeast in the production of the Coletivo de Arquitetos”, presented by Rodrigo Lacerda. Soon after, the presentation “Projects and execution of architectural and urban planning works: 30 years of activities” took over the table, with Odilo Almeida, national president of the IAB. “Dynamics for conceptual architecture and results in the practice of the entrepreneur and the architectural firm” also make up the topics discussed, with Ana Cristina Monteiro at the forefront.

In the evening, the theme “Light: The fourth dimension of Architecture” was discussed and mediated by Gerardo Fonseca CAU-PI. The opening work of the 1st ArqUrb.SE ended with the lecture “Creation of the Night Landscape” by speaker Elso Moisinho (IAB-SE).

On Tuesday, the second day of the seminar was marked by the lecture “Challenges in the management of built historical cultural heritage: the case of Ed. São Pedro/CE”, led by architect Marina Fontenele (IAB – CE). Later in the evening, the theme “Cultural Heritage and Master Plan in the city of São Paulo: dialogues, dilemmas and challenges” was mediated by Raquel Schenkman IAB-SP.

Among the topics that were covered on Wednesday were “Traditional communities and the urban development of Aracaju”, presented by the architects of Chão Assessoria, “Casa Encantada Project: Technical Assistance of Social Interest in Maranhão”, with the architect Marcos Bros , and “Participatory Plans and Projects: A city for all”, presented by Tiago Holzmann (IAB-RS).

Superior Council Meeting

In the same week, the 178th Meeting of the Superior Council (Cosu – IAB) also took place, between April 25th and 27th. The meeting place was the Creativity Center. The objective of the meeting was to discuss the demands of Architecture and Urbanism professionals in Brazil and address important topics in civil society, such as quality of life, city planning, education and sustainable development, in addition to ensuring the rights of the category and education in the scope of urbanism.

While the meeting is reserved for COSU members, participation in the opening night of the event was free, subject to registration. On the occasion, the IAB 2023 Award: National Stage was held, and architect Giselle Beiguelman presented the theme “Artificial Intelligence: Architecture, Design and City”.

The meetings also carried out social action through the donation of non-perishable food. The proceeds will go to institutions that care for people in socially vulnerable situations.
