The state governor, Eduardo Riedel (PSDB), took advantage of the launch event of the Download Taxes to Make It Right program, on the afternoon of this Monday (29), to reinforce the importance of resuming the UFN3 works and the economic impact of fertilizer factory for Mato Grosso do Sul.

According to him, UNF3 will play an important role in the GDP of Três Lagoas, a city 334 kilometers away from Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul and Brazil.

“It will produce around 15% of the nitrogen fertilizer that will be used in Brazil,” said the governor. “It is not only due to the volume of 1,200 employees who will be there directly and more than 1,200 indirectly that economic growth will occur, it will be in the competitiveness of this input that will supply 15% of Brazilian agriculture, which is one of the largest in the world”, he added. .

Riedel also emphasized the factory’s indirect impacts on natural gas consumption. The plant is expected to consume around 2.5 million m³ of natural gas per day. Today Mato Grosso do Sul consumes between 14 and 15 million m³. “We are talking about almost 15% more per day just to be consumed at UNF3, this is ICMS [Imposto sobre Circulação de Mercadorias e Prestação de Serviços] vein at the gas inlet. The impact of this unit for the state is very great,” he reported.

Resumption – With 81% of the work completed, construction was halted at the end of 2014, and this year the resumption of work was scheduled. According to the president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, the bidding process for completing the work should begin in December this year.

Visiting the factory last Friday (26), Jean Paul said this was the first step in the revitalization or re-approval of the hydrogenated plant in the municipality. For now, it is not known which model will be adopted to resume work, but the Federal Government is working with a schedule that foresees opening in 2026.

According to Prates, the work needs an investment of R$5 billion to be completed. The decision is supported by a technical financial feasibility study, which pointed out to Petrobras the need to return to the fertilizer sector.
