MARANHÃO – A mythical narrative, staged in a playful way through theater, dance, music and animation: this is the show ‘Maranhão de Encantos’, the result of the Theory of Arts Production Center.

The idea is to enable the population of municipalities in Maranhão to have more direct contact with the state’s popular culture. The action is sponsored by the Vale Cultural Institute, through the Culture Incentive Law and will take place, starting on May 13th, in six cities in Maranhão.

Based on the characteristic accents of our popular culture, “Maranhão de Encantos” offers, in addition to a fascinating show, free popular dance workshops in the communities where they disembark on the banks of the Carajás railway.

During an hour and a half of presentation and with musicians who sing live rhythms, the audience embarks on the trails of the adventures of the mythological characters Chico and Catirina, a work with a theatrical language rich in regional details that conveys local values, in an engaging and impactful way. The show is captivating due to the dancing rhythms of the accents that characterize the popular culture of Maranhão.

The Caravan begins its presentations by visiting cities surrounding the Carajás railway such as Alcântara, followed by Buriticupu, Alto Alegre do Pindaré, Arari, Itapecuru and São Luís.

About the company

The Theory of Arts Production Center emerged in 2001 in a school context, developing educational and pedagogical activities. In 2007, it expanded its actions and has since carried out cultural projects in the Itaqui Bacanga area.

With the aim of creating works of social impact through the performing arts, Theory of Arts is dedicated to researching and staging shows linked to the tradition of popular theater.

About the itinerary

The action lands in cities that have a relationship with the Carajás railway, whether
for receiving direct action from Vale, or for the proximity they have with
the company’s tracks.

The choice takes into account, in addition to these points mentioned above, the
promotes culture in places rarely visited by theater companies.
