Images show the moment when a mother and son shoot elderly people in MT; crime may have been motivated by late rent

The images obtained show how the crime unfolded and how the mother, son and other family members involved acted.

It was supposed to be a weekend of celebration at the Lavall family home, in Peixoto de Azevedo, a city 670 km from Cuiabá (MT). “My birthday was on Monday and I decided to have a barbecue on Saturday night”, says miner Erneci Lavall.

At around 3:14 pm, three people got out of a white pickup truck. To the security cameras show livestock farmer Inês Gemilaki, 48, her son, doctor Bruno Gemilaki, 28, and Inês’ brother-in-law, Éder Gonçalves.

Bruno carried a 12-gauge shotgun. Éder came right behind and was positioned at the rear.

The owners of the house are rural producer Erneci Afonso Lavall, known as “Polaco”, and his wife, Raquel Soares.

The shooters went to a part of the house where “Polaco’s” family members were gathered. Most of the guests were at a table, playing cards. At the time of the attack, the rural producer was resting on a sofa.

Inês Gemilaki shoots at the glass and passes through the fragments. She enters the room, crouches down and begins the shooting sequence. “It was very quick, very fast, with no chance of defending anyone, and we had nowhere to run, the women entered the house and others lay down”, reports José Roberto Domingos, one of the survivors.

Inês shoots first at Rui Luiz Bogo, 69 years old, who was an acquaintance of hers. She even looks at the camera and smiles at the moment of the attack.

Ten people were in the house and a child was sleeping in the bedroom. Rui’s daughter, Lourdete Bogo, was sitting next to her father.

“For me, they arrived very well knowing what they were going to do, and look, I thank God that, of my family, there was only one”, says Maria de Lourdes Bogo, Rui’s widow. “My father never did anything wrong to anyone. What she did was cowardly,” said Lourdete Bogo.

Father José Roberto, who was also in the house, tried to escape the shots and hid behind the sofa. But Inês shoots again, hitting Roberto, who survived.

Raquel Soares’ father, Pilson Pereira da Silva, aged 81, He was shot in the stomach and died in his daughter’s arms. “I felt so helpless. I called: “father, father, father father, father, daddy”, she reports to Fantastic.

Inês continues shooting and, this time, tries to hit “Polaco”, but the gun misses at least twice.

The action lasts about two minutes. Before leaving the house, she shoots at a security camera, but without success. The woman then asks her son, Bruno, but he is also unable to reach the equipment.

They leave, pass by a convenience store and buy water and soda. The gun-slinging family continues on the run and stops again to refuel the truck.

According to investigations, Márcio Ferreira Gonçalves, Inês’ husband, would have helped in the escape. Two days after the attack, he and his brother, Éder, were arrested in Alta Floresta, 791 km from Cuiabá. Inês and Bruno were arrested on the family farm, in Peixoto de Azevedo.

Inês was a tenant of “Polaco” for over a year and lived in the house where the crimes took place. According to “Polaco”, When returning the property, she would have left behind rent debt, as well as broken cameras and other damage..

In exchanges of messages, Inês said that she would repair what had been damaged in the residence, which did not happen. “Polaco” decided to take the case to court, but was unable to hold her responsible for the damage to the house.

Hours before the attack, Inês Gemilaki and her husband went to a police station to file a police report against the owner of the residence. She said she was receiving threats because of an old rent debt.

Bruno and Éder’s truck and weapons were located this weekend. The police are now looking for the revolver used by Inês on the day of the crime.

Questioned by the report, delegate Anna Marien said that it is not yet possible to know the motivation for the crime.

“May she pay for what she did. Her, her children, her husband, her husband’s brother”, said “Polaco”. “What will become of him? [Rui] now? The longing, the memories, the advice he gave me. The longing of knowing that I will never see him again, that’s what hurts me the most. My son asks for it all the time”, says Raquel Soares.

Angelita Kemper, Inês’ lawyer, said that her client “reported that she suffered numerous threats because of this action, to the point that the other party there did not like the judge’s decision to be unfavorable to him. He did not accept that he would lose the value”, he adds.

The defense of Bruno, Inês’ son, stated that he requested psychiatric treatment from the doctor, which was granted at the custody hearing. Márcio Ferreira’s lawyer asked for the preventive detention to be revoked and is awaiting a decision in court.

His brother’s lawyer, Éder Ferreira, was contacted, but did not take a position.
